Play Therapy Supervision Training

Play Therapy Supervision requires additional skills and techniques to best help supervisees become quality Play Therapists.  This workshop will address APT requirements for supervisors, APT resources, Therapeutic Powers of Play in Play Therapy Supervision, Parallel Processes in Supervision, and Assessment of supervisor and supervisee through expressive directives.

Attendees must be an RPT working toward RPT-S, or current RPT-S

At the end of this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Participants will be able to identify APT credentialing standards and expectations for supervisors.
  • Participants will be able to utilize information regarding APT play therapy competencies, best practices and additional APT resources for play therapy and supervision.
  • Participants will be able to identify and assess for play therapy skills.
  • Participants will be able to apply supervision interventions to their practice.

“Always Two There Are”:  Exploring Parallel Processes in Supervision

  • Identify and explain parallel processes and how they may impact both supervision and the delivery of play therapy.
  • Identify two tools for assessing parallel processes inside and outside of the sand tray.
  • Demonstrate the ability to navigate conflicts arising from differences in theoretical orientation within the supervisory relationship, promoting effective communication and mutual understanding between the supervisor and supervisee.

“If You Only Knew the Power of the Dark Side”: Light & Darkness, A Balance in Play Therapy Supervision

  • Explain two reasons why regular assessment of both the supervisor and supervisee are important in Play Therapy Supervision and the importance of seeing both light and dark in the supervision process.
  • Identify two tools for assessing progress and balance in Play Therapy Supervision.
  • Apply at least two Sandtray directives for assessing the Light & Dark of supervision while looking for balance as the result of quality supervision.

 

About Your Presenters:

 

 

Jared Andes, LCSW, RPT: Jared Andes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a graduate of the University of Utah. Throughout his career Jared has focused on children, teens, and families who experience a wide variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum, selective mutism, and more. Jared currently works in private practice at Full Spectrum Counseling and as an Emergency Room Care Manager for Intermountain Health Care. Jared previously worked for a non-profit based in Orem, Utah, where served as the licensed clinical social worker for the agency including the Early Intervention and Early Head Start programs as we as the clinical director of the Child and Family Mental Health program.

 

Sharlene Christensen, CMHC, RPT-S: Sharlene is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Utah and her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix. Sharlene is a nationally certified counselor with the National Board for Certified Counselors. She is a NOJOS (Network on Juvenile Offending Sexually) affiliate therapist. She is also a certified Domestic Violence Counselor through the Utah Domestic Violence Council. Sharlene has over 12 years of experience working with children, adolescents and their families. She has provided group, individual, and family therapy in residential treatment, child welfare, and private practice. Sharlene loves assisting families with navigating through life’s challenges while helping them develop more adaptive skills in order to find their path to a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.

 

Tina Warhurst, LCSW, RPT-S: Tina is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, with a graduate degree from the University of Utah as a Master of Social Work. She has dedicated her career to helping individuals and families reach their highest potential. She works in private practice in Cedar City, Utah. She is trained and certified as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, Certified in EMDR, and is trained as an EMDR Child Specialist I. She is trained and skilled in IFS, DBT, and CBT, with a special interest in expressive techniques such as Expressive Sandtray and Expressive Arts to enrich the therapeutic environment. She works with children and adults ages 3 and up and provides supervision to those seeking their RPT certification.  Tina is the current President of the Utah Association for Play Therapy.

 

Continuing Education:
  • This training will offer 6 Live Contact CE’s from APT
  • Participant may choose the following to apply this training toward requirements for the RPT (TM) credential: Play Therapy Skills and Methods, Play Therapy Special Topics, or Applicant’s Choice
  • This training will offer 6 Contact NASW CE’s

UAPT Cancellation Policy

Registration cancellations must be submitted to UAPT in writing. The Conference fees, minus a $75 administrative charge, will be refunded only if the request is postmarked, or emailed to utahplaytherapy@gmail.com, 30 days prior to the conference or workshop. Registration refunds will not be made within 30 days prior to the conference or workshop.   No refunds will be given to parties who register but do not attend. Registrations may be transferred to another person without penalty only if original registrant notifies UAPT.

 

UAPT reserves the right to cancel this conference in the event of unforeseen circumstances.  If such occurs, UAPT will attempt to notify registrants at least 10 calendar days prior to the conference and refund all registration, workshop, continuing education fees.
